CDRfarm

Facilitating Large-Scale Carbon Farming through Decision Support for Implementation Challenges

The CDRfarm project is part of the CDRterra Phase 2 consortium, and its work is closely aligned with the program’s core objectives: deployment of potential carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approaches, the infrastructure required to support their implementation, the development of robust methods for carbon removal, quantification and assessment, and the evaluation of their environmental and socio-economic impacts.

We are partnering with the Postdam-Institut für Klimafolgenforschung (PIK) on this project to develop structured profiles of CDR options to support informed decision-making by farmers, landowners, land managers, consultants, and policymakers. These profiles will primarily evaluate the carbon sequestration potential of different CDR approaches in agricultural and land management systems.

Within the CDRfarm project, we are leading Work Package 2, and our work focuses on:

  • developing comprehensive profiles of CDR options,
  • conducting quantitative assessments of these options,
  • analyzing farmer typologies and likely adoption rates,
  • evaluating the large-scale implementation potential and impacts of selected approaches, and
  • reviewing the current policy landscape, alongside providing recommendations to enable wider adoption.

Together, these tasks aim to bridge the gap between research, practice, and policy, enabling more effective and scalable deployment of carbon removal solutions in agriculture in Germany and Europe.

If you’re interested in working on your thesis (Bachelor’s or Master’s) or a small research project related to this project, we’d be happy to hear from you. Please feel free to get in touch and share your CV, include a couple of lines on your research interests and motivation, and any initial ideas you might have for a topic.
