Summer semester

Decision Analysis and Forecasting in Agriculture (M. Sc.)

This module explores the use of decision analysis methods to support informed decision-making in agroecology, addressing the complexity, risks, and uncertainty of interventions. It highlights the potential of these methods to evaluate trade-offs, benefits, and outcomes, aiding stakeholders in effectively scaling and implementing agroecological transitions.

You will be leading discussions and projects. The aim is for you to become a critical thinker and lead the process in generating useful forecasts for decision makers in agricultural development. You will build a working model of an agricultural development decision.

Lecture material:

Basics of Central European Forestry (M.Sc.)

This module gives an introduction to forest ecology and forest management in Central Europe. Part of the module takes place in the field as exercises related to forest inventory, vegetation ecology, pedology and silviculture. Note: This module combines well will the module 'Introduction to Tropical Forestry' (winter semester). For students with an interest in forestry, it is recommended to take both modules.

Waldbau und Forstwirtschaft (B.Sc.) (in German)

In this module, an introduction to German forestry is provided for agricultural students as part of a 175-year-old tradition in Bonn. The module encompasses a lecture and practical exercises and excursions in the forest and is held in German.

Winter semester

Gartenbauliche Kulturen (B. Sc.)

This module includes practical exercises on the cultivation of horticultural crops and on the first steps of data evaluation and an 'inverted classroom' part in which various horticultural topics are dealt with.

R-Material:

Horticultural Production and Research (M. Sc.)

In this module, we will approach topics like disease management, greenhouse production, vertical farming, urban agriculture, agroforestry, labor and gender issues, robotics, climate change impacts on horticulture and others. If possible, there will be a few excursions and a lot of group work.

This module consists of two parts: a lecture series, where you’ll learn about a range of aspects related to Horticultural Production Systems, and a seminar, where you’ll learn a bit about science in general, and scientific writing in particular.

Tree phenology analysis with R (M. Sc.)

Introduction to Tropical Forestry (M.Sc.)

This module gives an introduction to forest ecology and forest management in the tropics. The module encompasses seminars with room for active discussion and practical elements such as field exercises, excursions and a students’ conference.
This module combines well will the module ‘Basics of Central European Forestry’ (summer semester). For students with an interest in forestry, it is recommended to take both modules.
