Training on School Gardening and Nutrition Integration in Vietnam
As part of ongoing NIFAM partner activities in Vietnam, CODAS organised a training to support schools in developing and using school gardens as learning spaces.
The training focused on two main areas: basic gardening practices and how to integrate nutrition topics into school activities. Teachers and students worked together to learn simple, practical methods that can be applied directly in their schools.
During the sessions, participants explored:
- how to set up and maintain a small school garden
- how to select and grow suitable crops
- how to link gardening activities with lessons on nutrition and healthy diets
The training also created space for discussion and exchange of experiences. Teachers shared their challenges and ideas, and learned from each other’s approaches. This helped build confidence in using school gardens not only for food production, but also as a tool for hands-on learning.
Field-based activities were an important part of the programme. Participants had the opportunity to practice what they learned, observe different approaches, and reflect on how these methods can be adapted to their own school context.

All in all, the training highlighted the value of combining practical skills, local knowledge, and education. By linking gardening with nutrition learning, schools can create simple but effective ways to improve awareness of food, health, and the environment.
