On 18 September 2025, the second day of the 10th Forum Agroforstsysteme unfolded at Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen under the guiding theme “Vielfalt pflanzen, Agroforst skalieren.” (Planting diversity, scaling agroforestry)
Our HortiBonn team, along with ReForest partners from the German Association for Agroforestry (DeFAF) and Philipps-Universität Marburg (UMR), as well as CDRTerra, was on site, actively engaging with peers and strengthening ties with agroforestry researchers across Germany.
The day’s program featured a rich mix of presentations and poster sessions. Experts and practitioners shared innovative approaches, new strategies, policy perspectives, particularly on carbon, and practical examples of agroforestry in action. The poster sessions proved to be lively spaces for exchange. Our HortiBonn team presented the Dynamic Agroforestry Management Tool, developed using the Decision Analysis approach, and highlighted its potential for real-world farm decision-making. The poster drew significant interest and sparked engaging conversations with fellow researchers.
We were delighted to reconnect with colleagues we met at last year’s EURAF conference, hearing about new projects underway across Germany. It was especially rewarding to learn about the various agroforestry initiatives and to compare approaches to scaling systems, financial mechanisms, and integrative designs. Overall, the event reinforced the sense that Germany’s agroforestry community is moving from experimental pilots to scalable systems. Our presence at the forum strengthened ReForest’s visibility and built momentum for future collaborations.
