Representing the University of Bonn as a key research institution in North Rhine Westfalia (NRW), HortiBonn’s Dr. Alex Röll attended the presentation of the NRW Forest Strategy (“Waldstrategie für Nordrhein-Westfalen”) in Düsseldorf on 23 April 2026. The Forest Strategy aims to strengthen forests and forest management under climate change. It provides guidance and a framework for action for all stakeholders and links the relevant concepts and instruments within NRW. The Forest Strategy was developed on the basis of comprehensive expert contributions from a project working group, which comprised 47 specialists from forestry, environmental and nature conservation administration, in particular from Wald und Holz NRW, as well as from associations representing forest owners and forest nature conservation. The presentation of the strategy was follow by a heated panel discussion of supporters and opponents of the Forest Strategy, which will coin forest management in NRW for the decades to come.
